My Favourite Games
When I'm not using my
computer for serious stuff, net surfing, or playinggolf, I do love a
good computer game.
My two favourite genres
are the:
- stress relieving
bloodbath shoot-em-up
- mindbending, satirical
and darkly humourous adventure game

What more can be said
about this game? It revolutionised games playing. Notonly was it (and
still is) a mind blowing shoot up the baddies game, but itintroduced
the concept of multiplay gaming across IPX networks. Almost every
newgame marketed today now includes the facility to participate across
a network(although today we use the internet more than IPX).
Doom also introduced the
concept of an 'open architecture' game. Thisseparated the 'game play'
programming from the 'core' programming. By making thegame play public,
others could create new missions for your gun totin' marine. In effect,
as long as people are still interested in Doom, there is a
continuingsupply of new games, for free.
Whassat? You don't know
what Doom is? Where have you been living? On anotherplanet perhaps?
The Mindbending
adventure game
I'll get around to
writing this section soon. It will include links to myfavourites:
- Sam and Max Hit the
Road
- Monkey Island I and II
- Simon the Sorceror
- Toonstruck
- 7th Guest and 11th Hour
